This game is a work of art. I have reviewed hundreds of games, and only rarely have I been able to make that statement wholeheartedly.

I’m not saying I have found the game I will want to play until the end of my gaming days, but I have found a game that made me play it 7 times between its digital and physical release, make a podcast out of it, convert previously unbudgeable friends to indie games, run it in different languages, and get two tattoos based on the game’s art. So maybe I am saying that.

While I prefer his earlier work (Drunken Bear Fighter, Doctor Magnethands, etc) I feel that Spire represents the author’s transformation from grubby little indie wordpunk to respected mainstream sellout, and deserves to be celebrated.

After reading Strata, I did not believe any character class could top the absolute perfection that is the Inksmith. Then Sin came out, and I was proven wrong. Not once, but TWICE. An absolute Must-Have completion to any Spire book collection.
