In the red, wet heaven below the earth, death is only the beginning. If you’re willing to spit in the face of god, put the screws to a ghost, or wrestle the single meanest fish that’s ever lived, there’s always work for you in Heart. But sometimes that work will bring you face to face with the dark fate that awaits us all. Will you grit your teeth and plunge forward? Or cower and die in obscurity?

LAST RITES features three adventures for use as one-shots, campaign seeds, or momentary diversions in your ongoing story. Each one presents a unique set of challenges and a different approach to storytelling, be it linear, sandbox, or something in between.

  • In NEXT OF KIN, the world’s oldest Incarnadine hires you to kidnap him from his terrible family before he explodes.
  • In DEATH MARCH, you’re tasked with discovering the secrets of three dead knights by any means necessary.
  • In BONE APPÉTIT, a small town mayor asks you to gather impossible ingredients for his last great feast.

About Heart: The City Beneath

Heart: The City Beneath is a standalone roleplaying game that gives players the opportunity to take on the role of delvers – people on the fringes of civilisation who are driven to explore a shifting, unpredictable realm waiting beneath the surface of the world in search of answers, absolution, or revelations.

Using the Resistance System first developed in Spire: The City Must Fall, Heart focuses on what player characters have to lose in pursuit of their goals whether that’s supplies, friends, sanity, blood, a way home, or spatial or bodily integrity. Anything is up for grabs.

Classes such as the addict Junk Mage, the bee-filled Deep Apiarist, the ravenous Cleaver and the pre-deceased Deadwalker give players the opportunity to explore the world from unique perspectives.
